What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a neurobiological, specific learning disability that affects the way language is processed in the brain.  Dyslexia stems from a weakness in the phonological aspect of language which results in poor decoding, word recognition, and spelling skills. These deficits affect reading fluency, comprehension, written expression, and can affect self-esteem.   Dyslexia is often hereditary and has no correlation to intelligence.
